There’s off the beaten track and then there’s this. Somewhere in Patagonia you will find Chile’s Route 7 and the Carretera Austral and it’s the path to finding Patagonia’s secret trek. It’s 1240km of rugged road and you’ll only make it through with an adventure ready vehicle or complimentary rides from the locals. Local public transport services don’t even operate on some sections of the road. Basically, you’re on your own.
The reward at the end is the Cerro Castillo trek, and it’s not for the faint of heart. It’s located next to the town of Villa Cerro Castillo which is somewhere between Coyhaique and Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. Take the most adventurous crew you can and prepare for chaos. Extraordinary journey.
